One of the things I love the most when we travel is to lose ourselves in the museums (Natkin prefer to be lost in the area of bars 😂). But let's be honest: if you're not careful, the price of entry accumulate fast. That's why, after several romantic getaways across the continent, we learned how to take advantage of the free days and the tourist cards of each city. Today I share our best tips so you too can enjoy the art without emptying your pocket.
Table of Contents
France – Paris
The first time we went to Paris we spent a fortune on tickets... until we discover that on the first Sunday of each monthmany museums such as the Louvre and the Musée d'orsay they are free.
We now plan our visits just one of those days. We also use the Paris Passthat gave us access to a lot of attractions without doing rows.

Portugal - Lisbon
Lisbon surprised us a lot. Beyond its cobbled streets and viewpoints, romantic, has amazing museums and some are free of charge on Sundays until 14:00 h. The National museum of the Azulejor and Museum of Ancient Art they are on the list, and are perfect for a morning of cultural and quiet.
We bought the Lisbon Card, which we found super complete: includes entry to over 35 attractions (such as the Tower of Belém and the Monastery of the Jerónimos monastery), and transportation unlimited, even the famous tram 28. It was a win total to move around the city without worries.
Spain – Madrid and Barcelona
In Spain we discover gems like the Museo del Prado, that is free Monday to Saturday from 18:00 to 20:00 h and Sunday 17:00 to 19:00 h. It is perfect to close the day with art!
In Madrid we use the The Madrid Cardand in Barcelona the Barcelona Card, which also includes public transport.
Italy – Rome and Florence
Italy is an open air museum, but the museum closed also very worthwhile. Many offer free admission the first Sunday of the monthlike the Colosseum or the Uffizi Gallery. We suggest to buy the Roma Pass and the Firenze Cardthat helped us to skip many queues.
Turkey – Istanbul
Istanbul is different: the free days are not so standardized, but you'll have the option of the Museum Pass Istanbul you will save quite a bit. In addition, you'll have quick access to sites like the Hagia Sophia or Topkapi Palace.
United Kingdom – London
If you are looking for free museums ALL the time, London is your city. Most of the national museums, like the British Museum or the National Gallery, are free entry all day. Even so, if you buy the London Pass tenras including attractions private as the Tower of London.
Germany – Berlin
In Berlin we caught up with museums that have schedules free specific, but not as constant. Even so, the Berlin WelcomeCard we worked super well to combine museums, transport and discounts in restaurants.
Consejito end 💡
We always check the official websites before you travel, because the schedules and promotions change. And another thing: although the free days are usually full of people, the atmosphere is special, more local, more vibrant.
